Can I Use 1/4" Shank Router Bits?

Is it safe to use router bits with a 1/4” shank on my Boxzy. All my pieces are cut and planed to size, but some I would like to route some detail along the edges. Also, can I use V mills on the Boxzy.

I know this is probably a common question but I just want to be sure as not to damage anything.

Officially, it is not recommended, as it causes large amounts of resonance through the linear bearings. I would imagine small, well balanced router bits would be ok. You would know pretty quick if they were balanced well enough to be used, once you turned the router on while mounted in the head.

Thank you for such a quick reply and suggestion. I’ll just stick with my small router table :)

May I ask one more question while I’m here? I’ve been trying to find a free demo gcode file

of a 2D or 3D relief pattern just to test. Even with all the free files out there I can’t find a 2D

or 3D gcode file to test out my Boxzy.

No problem. You can find a demo file to test with linked to in this section of the guides:
