How do I laser a photo onto a piece of wood?

We have been working on lasering a photo to a piece of wood. We either get no image at all (wood is black) or only some of the image comes through.

What settings are good to do a picture & what kind of lumber should we use?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi Jules,

Please refer to these guides to help you engrave an image:

You can engrave most woods with good results, raw cedar wood, however, gives the best results for images in our experience.

thank you. We have been using both of those as guides.

Do I have to manipulate the image in say corel or adobe photoshop to get better results?

For best results, you'll want your file to be a PNG image. You'll also want to make sure your image is scaled to exactly 0.1mm per pixel scale, and that the laser window reflects that. You may also want to adjust the contrast of the image in the image editor, to create a greater difference between the light and dark sections of the photo. Also, an image that is already black and white will usually allow better details than loading a color image.

As for general setup, please make sure you are using the leveling platform for laser engraving, and that you have entered the exact material thickness into the correct field, prior to starting. If you do not do these things, the laser will be out of focus and will not allow good detail or power. You'll also want to make sure that the wood you are engraving is not sealed or coated.
