3D CAD Model of BoXZY

In the spirit of being open source, I was wondering if BoXZY would be willing to share some of its engineering drawing files for the community. I am mostly thinking about the critical pieces we, as the community, could utilize. However a full detailed drawing would be great. I would like to add some modifications for attachment holders and others to the chassis. I would like to design addons for the attachments such as LED lights and fans.

The less I have to take apart my instrument to break out the calipers and model existing instrumentation in CAD, the more I can work on providing upgrades and addons to the community!

Yes, I would like a CAD model or PDF file of the Z plate and the location of the hole pattern to make fixtures.

I have a copy that someone generated and gave to me. Not official by any means but I used it to design a case to mount the Boxzy on. Remember, its not from the maker, but should help with your needs. I have imported it into Fusion 360 and posted the IGES and STEP exported versions.

Since J3 has a substantial investment in this creature, I doubt that they will open source much. We can of course infer quite a lot of things from the equipment we've received.

Attachment canister outer diameter 65mm. (Maybe we can coax them into selling canisters as a separate part? Or maybe Canister + wiring harness + top acrylic disk + fasteners + handle?

Attachment connector Wiring:

- pair 1 is Input for 3D printer thermistor (not polarized)

- pair 2 is Output for 3D printer's heater cartridge

- pair 3 and 4 are ?????

- pair 5 is Output for Attachment Canister fan, 12v, positive in front

I don't have a laser attachment, but I bet that the "mystical white wire" is somewhere in pair 3 and 4.

From another post about the white wire on the laser :

"The white wire is a ground wire. It simply needs to be grounded to the cylinder and nothing else. It is what allows the case to be detected when installed."

I do appreciate the engineering that has went into the product. And I don't want to undermine that. But being open to the community would allow for a larger adoption of boxzy the same as shapeoko did a few years ago. In the end I can reverse engineer things, it will just take time. Which I think the time could be better utilized thinking of applications and ways to make my money back from the pieces it creates. But that doesn't help the community.

I'm told 3D models, wiring diagrams, and source code will be placed in the Wiki for the community within the next months as they get their feet under them.

Are the 3D models, wiring diagrams, and source code placed somewhere? I couldn't find it.

Thanks in advance!

I need effector signals and feedback signals. I may want to place a camera in the toolhead, or solenoids, or stepper motors or servos. A single, predefined cable is not going to work for the ideas I imagine.
