Are you aware of any lasers that are powerful enough to engrave lapis?

I’m going to start milling… any tips of milling a small area with lots of detail?

I am not aware of any laser system for under $20k that can accomplish that task. Though, I'm sure some are out there. As for the milling, it really depends on the type of detail. If we're talking about lettering, a carbide pcb engraver may do the trick, though it will not last long. It's best to expirement with a piece of wood and get the process down before attempting it with the stone.

Both of those materials are extremely difficult to engrave with a laser, and it's unlikely you'll be able to engrave on their hard reflective surface with BoXZY. With glass, you can engrave it on BoXZY by putting a thin coat of matte black paint on the surface first, then engraving it one or more times, and finally scraping off the matte black paint. This may work on the materials you're working with. This is because the black paint allows better absorption of the energy from a visible spectrum laser, like BoXZY uses. Alternatively, you can likely engrave them with the mill, after experimenting to find the right endmill. BoXZY's laser engraver works best on materials like wood, leather, and certain plastics.
