Introduction

The default 200W 19VDC power supply on the BOXZY is insufficient to power all of the motors on the BOXZY, the bed heater, the extruder, the fans, and the hot-end. Brownouts can occur that can make the BOXZY glitch during 3D prints and shift several mm at random in the X or Y directions.

The goal of this tutorial is to show how to modify the BOXZY by upgrading the power supply from 200W 19VDC 10.4A default power supply, to a 24VDC 600W (25A) power supply. This includes

a) selecting a power supply

b) selecting additional voltage regulators

c) selecting an e-stop.

d) Choosing the right grade of wire

e) Looking at the circuit board schematic of the BOXZY control board (an ultimaker V1.5.7 control board)

f) splicing the power cables

g) soldering the DC voltage regulator onto the control board

h) adding 12VDC voltage regulators to control the fan speed.

i) Upgrading the heater on the hot-end from an overvoltaged 12VDC heater running at 19VDC to a 24VDC heater running at 24VDC.
