[title] Air Pass
[* icon_note] Your milling files won't always execute the way you expect them to. Before you cut into material, you’ll want to test your file by doing an '''air pass'''. An air pass is a verification method that will execute your file with the bit raised above the material so that no cutting actually occurs. You run an air pass with the Milling Head powered off.
[* icon_reminder] This step is extremely important. Performing an air pass before every milling file will help you prevent unwanted behavior like the bit cutting your clamps, cutting the file in the wrong location, or moving too fast or too slow.
[* black] Undo the clamp in the Attachment Mount and pull the Milling Head up so that the bit is about an 1” above your materialmaterial, then re-clamp. A good rule of thumb is to make sure that the space you leave between your bit and material exceeds the deepest cut your file will make. Our test file is cutting less than ¼”, so an 1” gives us plenty of room.

[* blue] Download the Milling Test file [https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0gOyqLrz4L-d2ZpZWhZVnAydURyUnBPSnpSX00xTTk2d0xB/view?usp=sharing|here]. Load the test file that you just downloaded using the '''Load''' button in the BoXZY Interface, as shown by the blue arrow in the second image.
[* icon_reminder] Always keep the e-stop close and pay attention to what BoXZY is doing, even when running an air pass. There could be an error in the way you set up your milling file or in the G-code output generated by your CAM program. Even the most experienced machinist will perform an air pass with their hand on the e-stop.
[* light_blue] Select the Start Print button, indicated by the blue arrow in the third image. Watch the machine run an air pass of your file.
[* black] Wait until the file has executed and BoXZY has come to a complete stop. Then use the G1'''G1 X0 Y0 Z0Z0''' command to sent the machine back to its 0, 0, 0 position.

[* black] Undo the Attachment Mount clamp and let the Milling Head gently drop back down onto the material, so that your machine is back to your desired Z0 position to mill into your material. Re-clamp the Milling Head.
